=>The first modern sneakers designed specifically for women were released in 1982, as the result of labor activism. During the 1980 Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) strike in New York City, 33,000 MTA employees shut down New York City’s subway and bus lines for 11 days. From April 1 through April 11, more than 3 million commuters were forced to find alternative means to get to work. Businesswomen walking to work in their power suits and sneakers became emblematic of the strike.

=>Whatever adjective you want to ascribe to it, the most telling thing about the Air Jordan 1 is that the Air Jordan 1 exists because Michael Jordan didn't want to sign with Nike. As history would have it, Jordan's favorite shoe to ball in during college was Converse's Chuck Taylor, a shoe that no one would dream of seriously playing in today. But Jordan loved the shoe and wanted to sign with Converse as his career in the NBA began.
